Whiteford, MD - Over 100 people attended the Whiteford VFC annual banquet held at the Whiteford American Legion. The event emcee was past Deputy Chief Rusty Leftwich. Several members were recognized for the past year efforts and dedication. This year's highlights was the 5th. Chief's Life Saving & 50 Years of Service Awards. After the ceremony, the membership enjoyed the music & dance portion. A special thank you to Level VFC for standing by to allow the members enjoy the evening. Chief's Life Saving Award: On Sunday, November 15, 2015 at about 0025 hours Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company EMS unit was dispatched for fall patient in the 800 block of Federal Hill Rd. Street, MD 21154. At 0027 hours Paramedic 6 with Foundation Paramedic Mark Hagley and A692 with Foundation EMT/Driver Ben Becker & WVFC Brock Flahart called en-route and arrived on location at 0029 hours. The EMS crew was met by the patientís son, Fredinand Buecker, in the driveway. Mr. Buecker then directed the crew to the residence, when he suddenly collapses in the driveway. The EMS crew immediately assessed Mr. Buecker and found he was in cardiac arrest (no pulse or breathing) and began CPR and advance life measures which included one (1) defibrillation to him. The crew was able to get him into the medic to continue CPR and ALS treatment and call for additional assistance. The family was unaware of the outside situation until a family member went outside to investigate the EMS crew delay. The EMS crew was able re-establish the patientís breathing and began transport to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center with WVFC FF/Driver Donald Galbreath now driving the medic unit.. While en-route to the hospital, the patient regained consciousness and began talking to the EMS crew asking why he was in the ambulance. Upon arrival at the hospital, Mr. Buecker was fully alert and talking with hospital staff. The original fall patient was transported by Jarrettsville VFC Medic 791 with non-threatening injuries to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Chief's Life Saving Award: Foundation Paramedic Mark Hagley, Foundation EMT Ben Becker, Firefighter Brock Flahart & Donald Galbreath. The WVFC donated $500 Check to Harford County Sheriff's Office Major William Davis for the Harford County Deputy Sheriff's Union Benevolent Fund to assist the families of Senior Deputies Mark Logdon & Pat Dailey, who were killed in the line of duty on February 10, 2016. Harford/Cecil Hall of Fame Inductee: Paul Miller for 68 years of service. Years of Service Awards - Paul Miller-68 years, Richard Williams-55 years, & James Williams-50 years.
