Peach Bottom Township PA – At 1332hrs. Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for a full company response mutual-aid to York Co. Sta. 57 Delta-Cardiff first due for a building fire at the Calpine Corp. combine cycle generator plant located in the 1000blk. of Pike Peak Rd. At 1336hrs. E611T631E612R651A692 called en-route and all units arrived at 1356hrs. The fire was discovered to involved one of the plants large turbine. Crews were delayed entry because of the activation of the plants carbon dioxide fire suppression system which made the atmosphere hazardous. Once the area was considered safe crews entered and began extinguishing the fire. Crews used their self-contained breathing apparatus SCBA during a majority of the operations. Due to the immense amount of strain used for overhaul operations additional manpower was requested from surrounding York Harford Lancaster fire companies. Both York Harford Haz. Mat. teams were placed on stand-by however were not needed. Units cleared at 1708hrs. Units E611E612T631R651A692
