It is with great sorrow that the WVFC Officers and Members announce the passing of Safety Officer Daniel Lemmon on September 26, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dan served with the WVFC  for the past 25 years, mainly as the Safety Officer. He also  severed as Vice President, Board Member, and Acting Chief during his tenure. Dan did currently served as a Crew Chief with the Harford County Department of Emergency Service Special Operations Team.

Dan retired as a Fire Captain after 20 years with Baltimore County Fire Department.

Please keep the Lemmon family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Jarrettsville, MD – At 9156 hours, Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for an Engine, along with surrounding mutual-aid companies, for a reported dwelling fire in the area of 3200blk of Rock Chrome Hill Rd.  At 1957 hours Engine 611 called en-route and monitored Dispatch reporting that an on-scene firefighter was advising working dwelling fire. At 2006 hours, Deputy Chief 7 arrived and reported a working dwelling fire and requested working fire assignment.  E612 responded as part of the working fire assignment.  Crews assisted with fire and overhaul operations.

At 2036 hours both units cleared the scene.

Pylesville, MD – At 1217 hours, Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for Truck 6, along with surrounding mutual-aid companies, for a reported building fire in the area of 5300blk of West Heaps Rd.  At 1224 hours Truck 6 called en-route and monitored Dispatch reporting that numerous callers were advising of a well involved 60’x100′ barn that contained fuel inside. At 1225 hours Chief 10 arrived and reported a fully involved barn and requested a 2nd. alarm and tanker task force assignments.  At 1229hours E612 responded as part of the 2nd alarm assignment.

At 1236 hours Truck 6 arrived and was instructed to set-up the ladder for master stream operations. At 1242 hours E-612 arrived and assisted with the fire suppression and overhaul operations.

 

At 1530 hours both units cleared the scene.

 

Whiteford, MD – At 2048 hours, Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for a reported woods fire in the area of 3900blk of Bay Rd. At 2050hrs. Chief 6 called en-route and was advised by Dispatch that the caller from Heaps Rd was reporting a large fire in the area. Due to the high winds, Chief 6 requested an additional brush unit, which brought York Co. B57 to the scene. At 2054hrs. Brush 6 called en-route, followed by E612 at 2057hrs. At At 2059hrs. units arrived and found a large controlled burn on the property that was being wind driven toward the adjacent woods. At 2104hrs. Command then requested additional engines from Delta-Cardiff (E57), Darlington VFC ((E913), and an engine & brush from Norrisville VFC (B10 & E1011) for water and manpower to the scene.  Units were able to extinguish the fire in about 20 mins.

Units cleared at 2212hrs.

Lower Chanceford Township, York County PA – At 1059 hours Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for Truck 6 mutual-aid to York Co. Sta. 55 (Airville) first due for a dwelling fire in the unit block of St. Clair Rd. At hours Truck 6 called en-route at 1106hrs and monitored arriving units reporting a working dwelling fire. Command requested both the working fire and 2nd alarm assignments, which dispatched E612 as part of the 2nd alarm. Units arrived and assisted with fire suppression, roof venting, and overhaulyork county operations.

Units cleared at 1354 hours.

It is with great sadness to announce the unexpected Line of Duty Death (LODD) of our beloved FF/Secretary Janet Holbrook  on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Janet passed away overnight after returning home from a emergency call.

Janet had over 25 years of service and held numerous administrative positions throughout her tenure. She was recently re-elected to the Secretary position for 2022.

Janet is the wife of the Company President Larry Holbrook.

No arrangements have been made at this time and will be posted once they are finalized.

Darlington, MD -At 1439 hours, while units were returning from the below Prospect Rd MVA, Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for both engines and truck, mutual-aid to Darlington VFC first due, for a reported working dwelling fire in the 1600blk of Whiteford Rd.

Chief 6-1, E611, and R6 immediately called en-route, followed by with the Truck and E612 at 1443 hours. At 1441 hours Chief 9-2 arrived and report a working fire to a single story dwelling.

Crews arrived and assisted with fire suppression, overhaul, and water shuttle operations.

WVFC Volunteers manned Truck 6 at the Fallston VFC station during the BCFD LODD Services. Several regional fire companies had transferred throughout the state to ensure coverage at all the BCFD stations to allow our Brothers and Sisters to pay their respects for the 3 Line of Duty Death fallen firefighters. Along with Truck 6 crew was St. Mary’s County Mechanicsville Engine-Tanker 24 and Dauphin County, PA Progressive Engine 32.

Rest Easy BCFD Lt. Paul Butrim, Lt. Kelsey Sadler, and Firefighter/Paramedic Kenny Lacayo.

Fawn Grove, PA – At 1324 hours, Whiteford Volunteers were dispatched for the Truck, mutual-aid to Fawn Grove VFC first due, for a dwelling fire in the 200blk of Deer Rd. At 1329 hours, arriving Sta. 56 units reported a working dwelling fire and requested working fire & tanker task force dispatch. At 1330hours Truck 6 called en-route, followed by E612 at 1335 hours as part of the working fire dispatch to the scene.  Crews assisted with fire suppression, water shuttle, and overhaul operations.

Units cleared at 2101 hours.
